Namaste World!

In the month of June, increase your commitment to practice Yoga and you will be helping to raise money for a charitable cause. 

The Iyengar Yoga Centre of Hong Kong is offering a series of special charity classes as part of the global initiative called Namaste World!. Each class has a special them or topic, and there are classes for newer and more experienced practitioners. As well as encouraging your attendance to these charity classes, we ask you to invite your friends along too.

One of the highlights of this series of charity classes is an outdoor class that will be conducted at Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park (see separate article for details).

Namaste World! is a global yoga benefit that raises funds to support the work Room To Read. Room to Read is a global non-profit organisation that seeks to transform the lives of millions of children in Asia and Africa by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education. Since 2000, Room to Read has impacted the lives of nearly 9 million children and aims to reach 10 million children by 2015. 

When you attend any of the charity classes at The Iyengar Yoga Centre of Hong Kong, proceeds from the class will be donated to Room To Read. The teachers from the centre are donating their time to teach these classes.

You may attend classes using your existing package of classes or Yoga Pass. There is also a special "drop in" rate for attending the charity classes (details below).

6 June 2014 7:00pm - 9:00pm Yoga on the Rope Wall The Iyengar Yoga Rope wall with ropes and belts can be used to bring new understanding, awareness and openings for Yoga practitioners. Using the wall, ropes and belts open yourself up to something new. This class is for students that already have some Yoga experience. $230
9 June 2014 12:45pm - 2:15pm Backbends Invigorate yourself with a healthy dose of backbends, or put in another way, with chest openings. This class is for intermediate level practitioners. $200
12 June 2014 6:15pm - 7:15pm Pranayama (breathing practices) with overseas guest teacher Rina Ortiz Experience the art of breathing with overseas guest teacher, Rina Ortiz. Rina is a senior Iyengar yoga teacher. The breathing practices will leave you feeling refreshed, peaceful and calm. $150
18 June 2014 7:45pm - 9:15pm Iyengar Yoga 101 What is Iyengar Yoga? What makes Iyengar Yoga unique in its approach to asana practice. How does correct asana practice teach you to concentrate. Learn this and more in Iyengar Yoga 101. $200
20 June 2014 7:00pm - 8:30pm Yoga For Healthy Neck When the neck and shoulders are not positioned correctly the weight of the head can strain the neck. Explore poses to lengthen and release the neck muscles in this class. $200
22 June 2014 10:30am - 11:30am Outdoor Iyengar Yoga Class at Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park Join us for an outdoor Iyengar Yoga class (and picnic) at Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park. Please bring your own mat. $150
24 June 2014 4:00pm - 5:30pm Relax & Renew There are certain poses (and ways of supporting them) that can trigger the “relaxation response”. This is a physiological response where the body changes from a stressful “flight or fight” mode to a more relaxed state. $200
25 June 2014 11:00am - 12:30pm Iyengar Yoga for Level One Plus More This class is ideal if you have done some basic Yoga (Level I) but you would like to be introduced, in a very gentle and systematic way, to some poses that belong to the Level II (general) classes. Step out from Level I and put one foot into this class that will help you to progress your practice. $200
29 June 2014 1:15pm - 2:45pm Family Yoga This is a Yoga class for the entire family. Stretch, stand, balance, sit and relax with your friends and family. All family members are welcome - parents, spouses, siblings and children. We have not set a minimum age for children. If children can follow some basic instructions they are welcome.
