Philosophical Discourses

Maha-Mandeleshwar Swami Abhishek Chaitanya Giri Maharaj will present discourses in Hong Kong from 15 to 28 June 2017. The discourses are an opportunity for students of Yoga to reflect more deeply on the philosophical precepts of Yoga. A student can clarify concepts, apply these concepts to one's own experiences, and ultimately, gain a deeper understanding of one's self.

There will be two streams of discourses, a stream based on a text called "Blessings of the Enlightened One" and a stream on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. There will also be a discourse on living the Yogic Life. Swamiji will also deliver a talk for Hong Kong's International Day of Yoga celebration - see the International Day of Yoga article for more information.

Discourse: Blessings of the Enlightened One

Swamiji will present discourses drawing from a text called Brahmavida Ashirwadah (Blessings of the Enlightened One). The premise of this text is the question: If you met a Brahmajñāni (an enlightened one), what would you ask of him/her? If a seeker is unaware of what ought to be sought from such a master, he/she fails to realise the potential of such an opportunity and gets caught in his own projections, in his own preferences. Swamiji will also draw from The Bhagavad Gita.

Exposition on The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
Swamiji will lead interested students in a detailed study of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. This will involve investigation, inquiry and reflection on each sutra and it’s meaning.

About Maha-Mandeleshwar Swami Abhishek Chaitanya Giri Maharaj

Maha-Mandeleshwar Swami Abhishek Chaitanya Giri Maharaji is currently the head of Jagadguru Sannyasa Ashram in Rishikesh. He is respectfully called as Maha-Mandaleshwar — “Keeper and Defender of the Vedas”. Receiving formal initiation into sannyasa in 2013, and being made a Maha-Mandaleshwar, he moved to Rishikesh where the Sanyas Ashram is located.

In his earlier years, Swamiji studied Psychology and Behavioural Sciences at Bombay University. During this period he saw and heard Pujya Swami Chinmayananda for the first time. The Master’s strong conviction of Truth remained with him long after this first introduction to Vedanta. He went on to complete the Brahmachari course of the Chinmaya Mission, and following this period he has studied under other respected teachers of Vedantic and Bhakti texts.

While maintaining the spiritual traditions of the Ashram and putting in efforts to take the Ashram to greater heights of glory, Swamiji also travels to places in India and to countries like Malaysia, Hong Kong, Philippines, Indonesia, Italy and France where eager gatherings welcome him.
