The Centre

The Iyengar Yoga Centre of Hong Kong was founded by Linda Shevloff in 1999. At this time the centre was named “The Celestial Wishing Tree” and located on Upper Wyndham Street Central. Pictured below is Linda Shevloff teaching a class when the centre was located in Central.

In 2006, the centre moved to Sheung Wan. At this time, Yogacharya BKS Iyengar gave specific authorisation to the centre to bear his name and it was then that the centre was renamed “The Iyengar Yoga Centre of Hong Kong”.

In 2010, George Dovas took over the running of the centre from Linda Shevloff. At that time, George had already been a student of the centre (almost since its opening) and had undertaken teacher training with Linda.

A very special chapter in the story of this centre came in 2011 when Yogacharya BKS Iyengar visited Hong Kong en route to his historic China visit. BKS Iyengar’s visit to China was by way of invitation from the Chinese Government to the Indian Government. In China, BKS Iyengar taught a 3- day convention to over 1,300 students as well as giving discourses on the subject of Yoga.

I have noticeable improvement since joining your class which I cannot tell exactly the reason but I suspect is the very clear guidelines and well sequenced step by step teaching.

Just wanted to say thank you for your time and guidance. I really so happy for the class today...... I can do the "real & safe" headstand pose finally. Without your guidance and help, we won't realize how to do it.

Rita

I really appreciate that at the beginning of the class you take the time to give plenty of instructions to sit into cross legged pose. It helps to get into the class, focus and let go of what is on my mind.

Christiane

I like the 'properness', mindfulness, and the teaching generousity given to the students during the class. i have learned so much about my body since the past 12 months.
